Brookings County Conservation District hosts
a land judging school each fall in September for several local schools:
Brookings, Deubrook, Elkton, Madison, Oldham-Rutland-Ramona-Nunda, and
Sioux Valley.
The ultimate objective in land judging is land classification. Once
land is classified, you can make intelligent decisions concerning its
use and management. Through practice and field work such as land judging
schools, you can learn to observe, measure, and feel the soil properties,
interpret these factors, classify a soil, and determine proper soil management.
The local land judging school prepares students to participate in the
Area Land Judging Contest. There are 4 Area Land Judging Contests in
South Dakota. The top judging teams go on to the National Contest, which
is located in Oklahoma City, OK. |
